My friend Alexis wrote me a list of books that I should read and so I am going to try to read them this summer in order to keep my brain alive. It should be fun. I am looking forward to spending some time in the library again. Some of them I have already read in my life so they are already getting crossed off. I’m probably going to add some stuff too.
1. Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt
2. Everything is Illuminated by Johnathan Safran Foer
3. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
4. The Executioners Song by Norman Mailer
5. Dracula by Bram Stoker
6. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
7. American Pastoral/Portnoy’s Complaint by Philip Roth
8. The Plague by Camus
9. We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
10. American Psycho by Bret Easton-Ellis
11. Papillon by Henri Charriere
12. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
13. 1984/Animal Farm by George Orwell
14. As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner
15. Howl by Allen Ginsberg
Right now I’m reading a book too so I’ll throw that in there for good measure.
16. On The Road by Jack Kerouac
I’m thinking I should also add in some plays in there to keep theatre in my head but we shall see.
East of Eden is amazing–I’ve read and re-read it. Not necessarily light summer reading, but it’s sure to become one of your favorites!
Posted by Books in the 'Burgh | June 22, 2011, 5:01 PMI am looking forward to it. Maybe I will bump it up higher on the list for when I am feeling particularly literary.

I haven’t anything by Vonnegut yet but I am most definitely looking forward to it.
